The connotation of the"Dual Evidence Method"has undergone a gradual enrichment process, specifically charac-terized by an increase in the types of evidence used,an extension and shift of historical periods it applies to,an expansion of its fields of applied research, and the modification or substitution of the specific types of"evidence"referred to.Essentially, the orig-inal concept of the"Dual Evidence Method"was closer to the traditional practice of the epigraphic and artifact-based verification of history, emphasizing the mutual corroboration between unearthed written materials and transmitted texts. As historical research practices deepened, the connotation of"unearthed materials"expanded from written texts to physical artifacts, reflecting the natural trend of integrating history and archaeology during that period. However, this expansion carries the potential risk of over-emphasizing the historiographical side and inadequately addressing the relationship between the two.The evolution of the conno-tation of the"Dual Evidence Method"illustrates the advancement of historical research methods in response to the times and reflects the transformation and reform of modern and contemporary historiography. This method has garnered significant attention not only because it addresses the core issue of historical research-the application of historical sources-but also due to multiple factors including the dis-covery of new historical materials, the impetus of the trend of scientific methodological thought,Wang Guowei's pivotal academic role in bridging the past and future, and its role as a response to the skepticism regarding ancient history.
